The India National PolioPlus Committee of Rotary International organised an event involving tennis sensation Sania Mirza titled “An afternoon with Sania” at MCD Dispensary, Srinivaspuri on 24 February just 3 days prior to another Polio immunization drive slated for 27 February 2005. On the occasion, Sania along with 50 Polio - stricken children from Amarjyoti, a local NGO for disabled children, made an impassioned appeal to all parents of children upto the age of 5 years to get their children immunised on the forthcoming SNID on Sunday. This noble initiative by the tennis star Sania is definitely going to help India redeem its pledge of not letting down the rest of the world in its Polio eradication efforts who created history by becoming the first Indian woman to capture a WTA singles title and has become the toast of the country. |

“I have been very happy to be a partner in the Polio Eradication Initiative. Through this I have had a chance to understand the disease better, by talking to children who have polio and the people who are working to get rid of the disease. It has been good to be part of such a historic initiative. I feel enormous pride and excitement that a polio-free world is in sight. The polio partnership, spearheaded by Rotary International is a shining example of what we can do together. And something I hope can be repeated for other national health challenges” she opined. |

“I have been very happy to be a partner in the polio eradication initiative. I feel a sense of excitement and pride that a polio-free world is in sight. The partnership between the Government and Rotary is in itself a shining example of what we can do together something that could be repeated in every national health challenge. I would be very happy to play my part by continuing to play the googly against polio and so can all of us. Let us bowl out polio” |
